Keep private photos out of Memories and widgets

Nothing says 'surprise' like a private photo set to music in a Memories slideshow, or showing up on your Home Screen widget. Here's how to stop it.

Updated 2 min readBy the VaultBolt team
Short answerHidden photos are excluded from Memories, Featured Photos and the Photos widget. Hide the photo, or move it into a vault. To stop suggestions entirely, go to Settings → Apps → Photos and turn off Show Featured Content.

Quick fixes

  • One photo in a memory: open the memory → More (•••) → Manage Photos → deselect.
  • A whole memory: touch and hold it → Delete Memory.
  • A person: touch and hold the memory → Feature [name] Less.
  • The widget: touch and hold the widget photo → Remove Photo.

Settings → Apps → Photos → Show Featured Content → off. Memories and Featured Photos stop surfacing suggestions.

Keep them out for good

Hidden photos never appear in Memories or widgets. Photos in a VaultBolt vault aren't in your library at all, so Photos can't feature them.
