Real situations

Someone screenshotted my private photo

Once a photo is on someone else's screen, no app can fully take it back. But you're not powerless, especially if someone threatens to share it.

Short answerYou can't remotely delete a screenshot. Save evidence, don't pay or negotiate if you're threatened, report the account to the platform, and contact local authorities or a support service. For intimate images, services such as StopNCII.org can help block them on participating platforms.

If you're being threatened

  1. Don't pay and don't send more.
  2. Save evidence: screenshots of messages, usernames, dates.
  3. Report the account on the platform.
  4. Get help from local police or a support service. For intimate images, StopNCII.org creates hashes on your device to help participating platforms block uploads.

Next time

  • Share through apps with view-once and screenshot notices, and strip location first.
  • Crop out faces and identifying details.
  • Assume anything shown on a screen can be photographed.

Frequently asked questions

Does VaultBolt prevent screenshots?

No app can block screenshots on iPhone. VaultBolt detects them inside your own vault, and its planned sharing notifies you where possible.
